Director General,
Akihiro Tagawa

NARaha center for REmote Control technology development (“NARREC”) is deeply committed to the decommissioning of the TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (“1F”) and the reconstruction of Fukushima, and is engaged in research and development using state-of-the-art DX technologies such as remote controlled robots, remote sensing, and virtual reality.

In the decommissioning work of the 1F, which is highly contaminated with radioactive materials, there are many areas that are difficult for people to access.

That is why remote technology is indispensable, and our technology is required to minimize worker exposure and realize safer and more effective decommissioning. Furthermore, we believe that by actively incorporating innovative technologies such as DX and AI, which are evolving at an ever-increasing pace, we have the potential to solve long-standing problems with novel approaches that have never been imagined before.

NARREC is a unique R&D facility that can organically link both digital approaches such as DX and AI and physical approaches using full-scale facilities within the same location. We intend to take full advantage of this unique strength to steadily advance the decommissioning of 1F and contribute to the reconstruction of Fukushima.

Our activities are not limited to the decommissioning of the 1F and the reconstruction of Fukushima, as we believe that NARREC's technologies and knowledge can be widely utilized by academia, including universities and research institutes, and various industries in Japan and abroad. We hope that NARREC to be actively utilized as a platform for pioneering the future together.

Looking back at my profession, I have devoted myself to the research and development of environmental decontamination technology and 1F decommissioning technology immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake. “Michi no Eki Naraha,” served as a police station after the earthquake, and “J-Village,” conducted radiation screening as the entrance of the 1F, after the earthquake. Whenever I see these facilities restored to life and smiles on people's faces, I am deeply moved by the sight of their powerful recovery and reminds me once again of the importance of our mission.

We will continue to pursue research and development with a strict perspective and a stoic spirit of inquiry, aiming to be a company that is loved and trusted by the local people. For the future of Fukushima and the development of society, NARREC will continue to take on challenges.
